| Sony DVCAM is a proprietary digital recording format with a different tape speed, track pitch, tape formulation, and track number than digital consumer DV, although the actual data compression is the same 8-Bit 4:1:1 (for NTSC, for PAL it is 4:2:0) sampled DCT-based compression of approximately 5:1, and an extremely economical low bit rate recording capability of 25 Mb/s for standard definition active picture. Audio in the DVCAM tape footprint is 2 Channel 48 kHz or 4 Channel 32 kHz (different DVCAM VTRs may or may not provide I/O access to all channels in the 4 channel mode). | |
