| Panasonic DV (25) Standard Definition VTRs Note - Panasonic DVCPRO will not record or play on DV VTRs, with the exception of the Panasonic AJ-D455 (pictured above) which through the use of a new generation DV/DVCPRO switchable transcoding codec, allows for either DVCPRO or DV record or playback through either analog, optional SDI, or optional IEEE interfaces (NTSC only, SP mode for DV only, no 80 minute mini-DV tapes, and DV requires a special cassette adapter which is supplied). Various limitations also exist for editing functionality. DV (standard DV or Mini-DV) is a consumer 25Mb/s component digital format based on DV 5:1 compression. The SP Standard Play mode recording is generally interchangeable between different manufacturer DV devices, whereas LP or progressive scan recordings are not generally interchangeable for recording or playback. The AG-DV1DC mini-DV viewer/recorder was discontinued in November, 2003. |
