Sony High-Definition Videotape Camcorders (16:9)
Note - The HDCAM HD format is compatible with SMPTE 274M/292M and uses compression to achieve a recorded bit rate of about 143 Mb/s for active picture.  16:9 High Definition Television Aspect Ratio is equivalent to 1.77:1 Film Aspect Ratio.  A superb downconversion to Standard Definition Television through an external digital downconverter or via an SRW5000 or SRW5500 series VTR with HDCAM playback (including L/R positioning of center cut, or retention of 16:9 orientation via letterbox or squeezed pixel) can result in improved Standard Definition resolution in both luma and weighted chromanance channels.  The common practice for Cinematographers is to frame for widescreen (in High Definition, this is 16:9), and protect for 4:3.

Notes for HDW-F900R: Sony HDCAM High Definition 1080 23.98/24/25/29.97 PsF progressive segmented frames/sec scan format or switchable to 1080i/50 or 1080i/59.94 Interlaced (no longer support pure 60i and 30P as the predecessor, the HDW-F900 did). A standard definition viewfinder cannot be used with this camera.  Two HD-SDI outputs are standard, for YUV output (no RGB Dual Link capability).  4CH AES/EBU is standard.  R stands for "Refinement and Reinforcement". Power consumption drops 10 watts over the HDW-F900, and the 12-bit A/D is more bit depth in the DSP process before it gets converted back to 8-bit on tape. The HDWF900R otherwise uses the same CCD and DSP as the HDWF900 did.

Option boards for HDW-F900R:
HKDW-902R 2:3 pull-down board w/down converter (center cut, letterbox, squeeze), VBS output, SD-SDI output.

Additional Notes: Sony HD 1080i/59.94 Hz interlaced (29.97 frames/sec.) or 1080i/50 Hz interlaced (25 frames/sec., no PsF in this model) 143 Mb/sec 8-bit compressed component digital high definition HDCAM recording. 143 Mb/sec 8-bit compressed HD.  Analog output (standard).  A Memory Stick setup sustem memorizes various parameter settings and provides install recall.  Electronic shutter functions such as ECS and Super EVS provide blur free images.  Dual filter wheels for neutral density and color temperature control.  The camcorder has been designed for use for HDTV / SDTV (from down convert) production.  Built-in HD-SDI output. The audio input connectors of this camcorder are XLR 3-Pin female, and the audio output connector represents 2 analog channels, and is a male 5-Pin XLR.  A K1502 converting adaptor cable may be required depending on the audio equipment to be connected (*the optional K1502 has a male 5-Pin end to connect to the stereo camera mic 5-pin input, and so an optional additional conversion to female 5-Pin needs to be considered in the form of a 5-Pin to 5-Pin male to female cable or "turnaround" to get this optional connector to attach to the 5-pin male analog audio output of the camera).  Sensitivity of this IT interline transfer camera imager system is f10.0 at 2000 lux at 89.9% reflectivity.
