| Sony Standard Definition Studio & Dockable
Cameras Note - Sony no longer manufacturers studio cameras that are standard definition only. For "studio" configuration, a dockable camera head such as the products listed below, use a camera adapter to interface the camera head to a special cabled output (usually through multi-core cable, coax cable, or triax cable), for "wideband" digital or analog output to a control unit, and to add such additional functions as remote power, intercom, and video program return. |

| Notes: The DXC-D55WSH camera head (with supplied
viewfinder, but no camera mic, no camera mic holder, no tripod plate) is 4:3 or 16:9
selectable, with improved new 14-bit A/D LSI, more than 30 bit DSP, three 16:9 native
2/3-inch type Power HAD EX high density (over) 1 million pixel CCDs, high horizontal
resolution of 850 TV lines (4:3 mode, within DSP range only) 800 TV lines (16:9 mode,
within DSP range only), high sensitivity of f11 (at 2000 Lux, 3200K color temperature), an
S/N ratio of 65 dB, and a FIT-like low smear level of 140 dB (typical). Multiple knee-points/slopes for superior overexposure control are possible with the camera head's Adaptive Knee Control capability. Sony describes this process in the following way: "the camera analyzes the highlight areas of a scene and automatically sets and optimizes multiple knee points/slopes accordingly. This allows the reproduction of extremely difficult images (such as an interior scene that includes a brightly sunlit window) with much more overexposure latitude. This function applies only to input video levels in excess of the knee point the middle and low luminance parts of the video signal are unaffected by this control." The DXC-D55 series camera heads also use a Memory Stick system, for storing and recalling scene files on and from Memory Stick media which can be loaded to either a different RCP-D50/D51 controller (when connected to the CA-D50 with the digital 26-pin coax path), or copied to another DXC-D55 series camera. The DXC-D55 series camera heads also use DSP color temperature adjustment (meaning it has optical ND filters only, no color wheel filter). The optional CCU-D50 digital camera control unit (optimally it is designed for the 76 pin camera head digital interface and 26-pin digital coax path), also supports analog coax up to 300 meters for the analog multi-pin cameras like the DSR 570/390, and supports color teleprompter (there are 2 return video feeds possible, one of which could be used for teleprompter). Remote controllers for the CCU-D50 are the RCP-D50 (joystick type), or the RCP-D51 (dial type). The optional CA-D50 SDI camera back adapter is required on DXC-D55 and DXC-D50 series for an all digital signal path and operation (SDI is available at the camera or through the 26-pin digital coax path at the CCU-D50). The RCP units employ LCD touch screen for control (and status) and video monitoring, and use memory stick for scene file save and recall (except that the memory stick function is only with the D-50 or DXCD55 series CA-D50 + CCU-D50 combination, not supported with the D-30 or D-35 series camera heads). The Sony CA-D50 Camera Adapter is required for the DXC-D50 and DXC-D55 series for 76-pin digital connection to the CCU-D50 over standard CCZ cable. As indicated below, standard Sony CCZ cable supports a digital connection up to 75 meters, and Sony CCZ-AD Low loss cable supports a digital connection up to 150 meters. For longer cable runs, the optional digital Triax package can be employed for up to a distance of 1500 Meters (see below). Optional Accessories Accessories for DXC-D55WSH Studio 26-pin Digital Multicore Operation with SDI output: Lenses: Fujinon A or Canon J and YJ series; or box-style lenses, crossover or no crossover CA-D50 Camera adapter back for Multicore with SDI and teleprompter output DXF-51 5" B/W 4:3/16:9 Studio-type Viewfinder CAC-12 Microphone Holder ECM Series Shotgun Microphone CCU-D50 Multicore-type Digital Camera Control Unit (CCU) with SDI Output RCP-D50 Remote Control Panel with Memory Stick storage and Joystick Iris/M Black control RCP-D51 Remote Control Panel with Memory Stick storage and Dial Iris/M Black control CCZ-ADXX Multicore digital cable 26 pin/26 pin (XX length in meters) 150M SDI Limit (Available Lengths from Sony are 2, 5, 10, 25, 50, 100, 150 Meters) Accessories for DXC-D55 Studio Triax Operation with SDI output: The Sony Triax digital camera back adapter is the CA-TX50 (CA-TX50P for PAL), and it works with the DXC-D50 or DXCD55 Series heads only. The first generation Sony CA-TX7 Triax digital camera back adapter was discontinued in the fall of 2004. The digital camera back adapter supports dual CH Intercom and Teleprompter output. (Note: the adapter has a 76-pin digital connect for digital triax or a 50-pin analog connector which would send analog through the Triax cable. Some important control functions are only available with the digital 76-pin connection utilizing an all digital path). CCU-TX50 (CCU-TX50P for PAL) Triax Camera Control Unit (CCU) Note: The DXBK-701 SDI Board (which was purchased separately for the discontinued CCU-TX7 for SDI Output) is included in the new CCU-TX50, along with the COU-TX7 CCU Control Panel (which was not required with RCP operation of the CCU-TX7). RCP-D50 Remote Control Panel with Memory Stick storage and Joystick Iris/M Black control RCP-D51 Remote Control Panel with Memory Stick storage and Dial Iris/M Black control CCTA-XXX ½ inch Triax Cable (XXX is cable length in meters) CCTB-XXX 3/8 inch Triax Cable (XXX is cable length in meters) CCU-TX50 Triax camera control unit (CCU) Notes: 19" 1/2 Rack-Size control unit with 4RU height; Optional RMM-301 rack mount bracket for mounting two CCU-TX50 units side by side. The CCU-TX50 unit operates on AC power only (the older and discontinued CCU-TX7/1 could operate on AC or DC power). The CCU-TX50 is designed to work with the CA-TX50 camera back adapter. The CCU-TX50 has 3/8" triax cable support up to 1500 Meters; supports color teleprompter video channel transmission (2 inputs available for return video VBS); Four-wire/2-wire/RTS/Clearcom support. 2 channel program mic system with XLR connectors provide power to the CA-TX50 for an external microphone. There is a port for linking multiple control units. There are 2 composite analog, 2 component analog, and Waveform outputs. |

| Notes: The BVP-E30 (or BVP-E30WS) could have been configured with optional products and accessories in four Sony operation styles: Sony Triax CCU Studio-type Configuration Sony WLL Series 2.4GHz Band SDTV Wireless Transmission Sony Fiber Optic Cable Transmission Traditional Dockable VTR Operation Recent History of BVP Series Sony Triax Operation: With the CA-570 Triax Camera Adapter docked to the camera head, the BVP-E30 could be remotely controlled over digital Triax from the CCU-550D (with BKP5973 Local Control Panel) or wideband analog Triax through the CCU-700A Camera Control Unit under the control of an RCP (Remote Control Panel). In the case of the wideband analog Triax control path, the analog Triax Cable supported return video and remote power. About BVP Series Sony Fiber Optic Transmission: When the CA-950 Fiber Optic Camera Back was docked to the camera head, the BVP-E30 could be remotely controlled from an RCP Remote Control Panel connected to the CCU900 SDTV Fiber CCU Camera Control Unit. In this configuration, one could have achieved a connection supporting 2 channels of intercom, a teleprompter output (at the camera), and one return video input (switchable from 4 channels that were input at the CCU-900). About BVP Series Camera Control: Sony BVP camera control could have been achieved at the camera head (in menu form), or optionally and remotely through handheld remote control, or through remote basic control at the CCUs with the optional local front panel control at the front of the CCU itself, or by having the CCU control remoted through the advanced control of RCPs attached to the CCUs. The RCPs (Remote Control Panels) controled the paint operations, auto-setup, and scene file operations, and had about a 10 Meter cable limit. As a footnote to Sony general control logic, there were two other handheld units that controlled select Sony camcorders. The Sony RMP9 remote unit was designed only to interact with Sony BVW and DVW camcorders and could put them into remote control mode (versus local control), and consequentially, setup menu changes are not written to the setup card in the camcorder. The other handheld unit is the RMB150//A handheld remote control, which was designed with a 100 Meter cable limit to only interact with the BVP series or the HDW-700/700A/730/750/F900 or the HDC900/910/930/950 (note: the HDCF950 only uses the RMB750 and does not use the RMB150//A). Because various differences exist between Sony cameras and camcorders, which may be running different versions of sensitivity, do not assume it is possible to control each camera in a similar manner, as in some cases, the control capability is different and values cannot necessarily be obtained from one camera control system and "transferred" or "physically menu copied, hand entered, and imposed" to another. For the BVP series, more advanced multiple camera Command and Camera Control was possible through the MSUs (Master Set Up Units) that could perform not only the more advanced functions of the RCPs, but they could interface with the Sony CNU Command Network Units to control multiple BVP or HDC cameras. The Sony MSU700A Master Setup Controller Unit could provide touch screen panel expanded control of one BVP-E30, or centralized technical control of multiple cameras in a multi-camera system. It was a full-sized rack width unit, with a larger working surface area for the operator (to see and control more at the same time) and attached to the CCU-550D through a CCA-5-XX control cable. The Sony MSU750 was also a Master Setup Controller Unit, but was a half-rack size unit (limiting somewhat the amount of "at hand" controls at one time). Choosing wisely between these different Master Setup Controllers may have depended upon the space available in the rack, and the number of cameras to be controlled and the amount of time it may have taken to affect subtle changes (with the idea that a larger workpad layout can give the operator/shader an edge). Both the MSU700A and the MSU750 had about a 200 Meter cable limit. In all cases, one did not purchase a control unit of any kind without having checked compatibility and to make sure the correct cable and cable length were supported. To control multiple BVP or HDC cameras, a Sony Command Network Unit was required. The CNU-500 could provide control networking for up to 6 cameras (but it also could not assign Remote Control Panels). The CNU-700 could control up to 12 cameras by itself and could interact with up to 8 other CNU-700 units to control (between all of the CNU-700 units) up to 96 cameras. The CNU-700 provided for ISR Interactive Status Reporting, and the ability to assign CCUs, MSUs, RCPs and camera heads to various points of control. Various limitations may have applied to the above. |
